هذا الكتاب هو باكورة الأعمال التى تسهم بها دار الشروق في إحياء الذكرى المئوية لثورة 1919 على امتداد عام 2019. ويحتوى الكتاب على يوميّات الفريد ملنر؛ وزير المستعمرات البريطاني أسباب ثورة 1919. وقد عثرنا فى أثناء البحث عن وثائق جديدة فى الأرشيفات الوطنية للملكة المتحدة فى لندن، على مجلد مستقل يحمل عنوان «لجنة ملنر (1919 – 1920 )»، وسجل بالأحاديث التى أجراها لأعضاء اللجنة مع شخصيات ذات نفوذ فى مصر. وداخل هذا المجلد وجدنا وثيقة مكونة من سبعين صفحة فولسكاب مكتوبة على الآلة الكاتبة عنوانها: «الأحاديث التى أجراها اللورد ملنر خلال رئاسته اللجنة الخصوصية المنتدبة لمصر»؛ وهى الوثيقة التى نقدم ترجمتها للقارئ العربى للمرة الأولى. كما نقدم الوثائق الرسمية التى تقدمت بها لجنة ملنر للحكومة البريطانية، ديسمبر 1920. ومترجم يوميات ملنر هو الدكتور صلاح أبو نار؛ الباحث في العلوم السياسية، وقامت بإعداد الكتاب وتحريره «منى عبد العظيم أنيس» مديرة قسم التحرير بدار الشروق والباحثة فى الدراسات الثقافية.
