في شتاء 1942 انفتح عالم "الخوجة" الغامض، الوطن، اليهود، الكاثوليك، المقابر، الحبيبة الغائبة، دولة الفقراء العالقة برقبته، وأخ محب يقتله الفضول. هنالك أدرك العالم أن الذين يسرقون مقتنيات الموتى الأقباط من جواهر وصلبان ذهبية، وأولئك الذين يجمعون الأموال من الحي الهادئ هم رجاله الذين ينتشرون في الليل كالجراد
ترى من فيهم خذل الخوجه؟ أم أنه كان أكثر براءة ونبلا مما يستحقه الجميع
