أسعدتني أمي بتأتأتها، فقد ساورني شعور بأننا قد نتشارك أخيرًا أرضَ لغةٍ تتحدثُ الإعاقةَ عوضًا عن الأشياء التافهة الأخرى التي يتحدّثها البشر، أو التي كانت هي نفسها تتحدثها باستمرار، فأخيرًا صار في مُكنتنا التحدّث بقواعد لغة جديدة، عن شيء يجمع هويّتَينا بصلة ولو كانت مشوّهة، لكنها عى الأقل متقاربة. نحن الاثنان، كلّ منا يمتلك قدرةً عى التعبير بالطريقة الإنسيّة المفهومة، إلا أننا وبشكل مختلف نعبّر بعناد عن عجزنا، هي عندما تتأتئ، وأنا عندما أرفرف وأقفز. لقد غمرتني الفرحة، ليس لأن جُرعة ضحكي ستزيد بسبب تأتأتها التي كنت أجدها أحيانًا مثيرة للشفقة، بل لأننا التقينا من جديد على ضفة جديدة لذات اللغة المغبونة.
