"استوحيت اسم الكتاب من كلمة إتكاء ويعني الإتكاء على المخدة كإسناد الظهر إليها أو الإتكاء على العصا كالإعتماد عليها، جمعها إتكاءات، قال الله تعالى: {عَلَى الأرَائِكِ مُتَّكِئُونَ}... شبهتها بالوقفات والتأملات التي تسند لحظاتنا على جدار الأفكار التي تنير طرق دروبنا، والمشاعر التي تريح صدورها، فكل منّا لديه حكاية يرويها".
بهذه العبارات يبدأ عبد العزيز دلول كتابه (إتكاءات) وبعنوان فرعي (حيث للحياة معنى)، والكتاب في مضمونه يشتمل على تغريدات عشوائية ومقتطفات راقت للقراء جمعها المؤلف على مدى سنوات تنم عن مواقف وحالات إنفعالية جالت في خاطره، وترجمها كتابةً صادقة (فلسفات وتأملات مركزة وخواطر وجدانية... عن الحياة والكتابة، الحب والصداقة، السعادة، والأمل والأصدقاء، وأشياء كثيرة".
كما تضمنّ الكتاب، إقتباسات لمفكرين وأدباء ملهمين، يصلح بعضها إتكاءً للتفكر والتأمل، والبعض الآخر يساهم في إعادة ترتيب أولوياتك، فكل شيء في هذه الحياة "يحمل معنى ومغزى".
من عوالم إتكاءات نقرأ: "ثلاثة أمور عليك محاربتها: الغرور... لأنه مقبرة الناجحين... الفراغ... لأنه يقتل روحك وصيد سهل للشيطان... وثالثاً: الإستهزاء بالأشخاص الذين يطمحون للقمة... البعض نحبهم، لكن لا نقترب منهم... فهم في البعد أحلى، وهم في البعد أرقى... وهم في البعد أغلى..."... "لا يملك الأشرار أبداً وقتاً للقراءة، وهذا أحد أسباب شرَّهم"، "هناك أشخاص عندما تلتقي بهم تشعر وكأنك التقيت بنفسك".
