أحببت أمي ليس كمثل ما أحب إنسان أمه، كانت هي كل عالمي، أنا بكريها أول أبنائها الذكور، الأم الصعيدية شيء آخر ليست ككل الامهات، الحبل السُّري الذي يربط الأم الصعيدية بوليدها لا ينقطع أبدًا، أنا مربوط بحبلي السُّري إلى أمي ما حييت، يتحدثون عن الوشائج ولا شيء يشرح الوشيجة إلا الحبل السري الذي يحمل الدم والغذاء وأكسجين الحياة إلى الجنين في بطن والدته. قد يستحي البعض من التذكر أو الذكرى، ولكنني ما فُطمت من والدتي قط، بظني ظللت متعلقًا بثديَي أمي، كنت أغار من شقيقي الأصغر الذي ما زلت أتذكر أنه حل محلي دون منازعة مني، كنت أجلس إلى جوار أمي، كنت أتمحك بأمي وهي ترضع شقيقي الأصغر.. عندما ينام- وكنت أدعو الله نصف اليوم ينام لألتصق بأمي- كان الحنان يفيض بها وكانت تأخذني في حجرها وقد كبرت على ذلك الحجر، فأثني جسدي وأتكور في وضعية جنينية كأن حجرها هو رحمها الثانية، بالنسبة إليَّ كان حجر والدتي رحم العالم، كانت تحكي قصص الصعيد، ربما أبو زيد الهلالي، لا أذكر الآن، كانت تحكي لي بصوتها الجهوري برقة وعذوبة ويخفت صوتها إلى أن يتجاسر عليَّ سلطان النوم، فلا أحس إلا بمسحات كفيها تهدهد رأسي وتصفف شعري المموج. كان صوتها ينتهي به يومي كما يبدأ..
