فرانسيس سكوت كي فيتزجيرالد (24 سبتمبر 1896-21 ديسمبر 1940) مؤلف أمريكي للروايات والقصص القصيرة تعد كتاباته نموذجًا مثاليًا لكتابات عصر الجاز، وهو المصطلح الذي صاغه بنفسه. كما يعد أحد أعظم الكتاب الأمريكيين في القرن العشرين. كما يعتبر فيتزجيرالد عضوا في "الجيل الضائع" للعشرينيات. كتب أربع روايات: هذا الجانب من الجنة والجميلة والملعون وغاتسبي العظيم والليلة الناعمة، إضافة إلى خامسة لم تكتمل وهي حب التاجر الأخير، والتي نشرت بعد وفاته. كما كتب أيضًا العديد من القصص القصيرة التي تعالج موضوعات الشباب وتقدم العمر واليأس. كما مثلت رواياته في أفلام سينيمائية أشهرها غاتسبي العظيم عام 2013.

كانت رواية «هذا الجانب من الجنّة»، التي طُبِعتْ في عام 1920، رواية سكوت فيتزجيرالد الأولى. وقد انسجمتْ بدقّة مع المزاج الهشّ للأشياء الغضّة البرّاقة في عصر الجاز: ويمكن مُقارنة قبولها الفوري بنجاح رواية « الحارس في حقل الجودار» التي صدرت بعدها بثلاثين عاماً.
إنَّ فيتزجيرالد يصفُ، من خلال سلسلة من اللقطات الأدبية، مراهقة وشباب أموري بلين، وفي سياق ذلك نرى متبجّحاً يرتقي ليصبح «صاحب شخصية متميزة». وجامعة برينستون لم تُسامح المؤلِّف على نسخته الخاصة التي رسمها للحياة العنصرية والمكشوفة لشبّان تلك الأيام–الأذكياء، التافهين، المتغطرسين، الكسالى، والمتهورين، لكنهم يفورون بالنشاط كمياه الصودا في قضاء وقت الفراغ وفي الحب.
