نتكلّم عن ميغيل دي أونامونو Miguel de Unamuno (1864–1936). أديب ومفكّر وفيلسوف إسباني من بلاد الباسك. أحدُ أعلام الفكر الإسباني بين الثلث الأخير من القرن التاسع عشر والثلث الأول من القرن العشرين وإن تعدّى أثره وفكره حدود الزمان تلك. هو أحد أعضاء ما عرف بجيل 98، تلك المجموعة من المفكرين والأدباء الإسبان الذين هالهم، كما هال الإسبان جميعاً، أن تفقد إسبانيا هيبتها وتطرد على أيدي الأمريكان من آخر مستعمراتها في كوبا والفلبين متعثرة في ثوب الخزي ومسربلة سربال الهوان، منكسة الرايات مهزومة في جيشها وكبريائها وكرامتها. كانت تلك هي «النكبة» عند الإسبان. فكان دور الثقافة والمثقفين آنذاك هو تشخيص الحالة ومعرفة الداء والبحث عن العلاج والدواء. ولد في بلباو Bilbao المدينة الباسكيّة المهمّة. وتوفي في سالامنكا، المدينة القشتالية التاريخيّة. تعاطى شتّى فنون الكتابة: رواية وشعراً ومقالة ومسرحاً، وخاض غمار السياسة، فانتخب نائباً عن التجمع الجمهوري الاشتراكي، وكان هو من قرأ بيان إعلان الجمهورية الثانية في الرابع عشر من نيسان عام 1931 من على شرفة بناية البلدية في سالامنكا. انتخب رئيساً مدى الحياة لجامعة سالامنكا العريقة حتّى أقيل من منصبه ذاك عام 1936 بأمر من فرانكو، الذي كانت قواته قد انطلقت إلى أرجاء البلاد لإسقاط مؤسسات الجمهورية ومطاردة رجالاتها ورموزها في ما عرف بالحرب الأهلية، التي بدأت في السابع عشر من تموز من عام 1936 وانتهت بعد ذلك الوقت بثلاث سنين.
