قضى هوراس ماكوي، وهو الذي ولد قرب مدينة ناشفيل في ولاية تينيسي في العام 1897، زهاء عمره وهو ينتقل من مكان إلى آخر في طول أمريكا وعرضها، وكان قد زوال الكثير من الأعمال، إذ عمل كبائع، وسائق تاكسي، ومراسل ومحرر رياضي، وحارس شخصي لأحد السياسيين، ومصارع، وصحفي وكاتب سيناريو.
له ثلاثة أعمال روائية وهي:
-"كان يجب أن أبقى في المنزل" I Should Have Stayed Home (1938).
-"قبَل الغد قبلة الوداع" Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (1948).
-"إنهم يقتلون الجياد، أليس كذلك؟" They Shoot The Horses, Don't They? (1935) التي تم تحويلها في ما بعد إلى فيلم سينمائي، توفي في العام 1955.
