مازلت أسمع صوت آلة الخياطة خاصتها يتردد في أذني وهيا تعمل حتى ساعة متأخرة من الليل، يمنعني الأرق من النوم، ويجبرها السعي وراء لقمة العيش على السهر.
بعض الأيام عندما كانت جهاد تأتي إليّ لتشرب قهوة العصر كُنت أرى التعب بادٍ في عينيها اللتين لم تفارقهما الابتسامة حتى في أصعب الأوقات، كان زوجها قد ترك عمله قسرًا، وقد عجز عن إيجاد عمل آخر حسب ما كانت تقوله جهاد، لكن الحقيقة كانت غير ذلك فيوسف صاحب الشهادات الجامعية كان يرفض العمل في وظيفة لا تَرقى لمستوى شهاداته، فهو لم يدرس الجامعة ولم يتخرج بتفوق حتى يعمل عملًا يقلل من شأنه حسب تفكيره.
