أخذت تتلو بعض سور القرآن القصيرة في سرها حتى نامت، أما هو فأخذ يشاهدها في إعجاب وهي نائمة؛ انعكاس وهج النار على شعرها الأشقر بدا وكأن هالة من نور ذهبي تحيط برأسها، فشُبّهت له وكأنها أحد ملائكة الكتاب المقدّس، أو ربما شَبهت مَريَم العذراء لما يحمله وجهها من براءة وصَفو، حتى كاد يُقسِم أنها أفضل من تستحق تجسيد دورها في مسرحيات الكنيسة، فأغمض عينيه مغلقًا أنوار المسرح، وسلَّط كشّاف الضوء عليها، وغاص في كرسيه بالصف الأول مستمتعًا بمشاهدتها وحده.. حتى نام.
