التربية الأخلاقية هي المقياس الصادق الذي تُقاس به خطواتُ نهضات وارتقاء الأمم؛ فما ارتقت أمة في العالم القديم أو الحديث إلا وكان سببُ ذلك سموَّ أخلاقِ أفرادها؛ وقناعتَهم، واقتصادَهم، وحبَّهم للناس؛ ومحبتَهم لأنفسَهم، وإخلاصهم في العمل لوطنهم، وانتشار روح النشاط والإقدام بينهم، وبُعدهم عن الفخر والرياء، والدسائس والفتن، ونفورهم من الانقسام والمخاصمة.
وقد قال لوثر: ليست سعادة الدول بوفرة إيراداتها، ولا بقوة حصونها، ولا بجمال مبانيها، وإنما سعادتها بكثرة المُهذبين من أبنائها، وعلى مقدار الرجال ذوي التربية والأخلاق فيها، وما انحطت أمة، ولا أفل نجم مجدها، ولا زال سلطانها إلا بزوال تلك الأخلاق الفاضلة ، والانغماس في الشر والفساد.
