تعرض الرواية بشكل مبسّط مظاهرَ متنوعة في يوميات الحياة الفلسطينية، وتعيد إلى الذهن فكرة المقاومة المسلّحة التي أوقدت شعلة "الانتفاضة"، حيث تمكّن أطفال فلسطين الذين بعُمْر الورد، من محاصرة جنود الاحتلال الصهيوني وجعْلهم يتراجعون إلى موقع رد الفعل بعد أن كان الفعلُ بِيَدِهِم وحدهم لا بِيَدِ سواهم، وهذا ما يلمسه القارئ بوضوح في تركيز الكاتب على مرحلة الطفولة؛ سواء عندما كان السارد طفلاً ولدَيه من التساؤلات العميقة الكثيرُ المعلّقُ بلا إجابة، أو عندما أصبح شاباً لكنه لم يترك الخيط الذي يربطه بعالم الطفولة. فكلّما تعرّض لموقفٍ، أسرعَ إلى استدعاء ما كان يهيّئه له عقلُه أثناء طفولته من قراءةٍ وتقديرٍ للموقف، قبل أن يُسعفه نضوجُه ووعيُه في إعادة القراءة من وجهة نظر مختلفة؛ قريبة من الواقع وبعيدة عن الحُلمية.
