كَانَ بِمَدِينَةِ «بَغْدَادَ» — فِي زَمَنِ الْخَلِيفَةِ «هَارونَ الرَّشِيدِ» — حَمَّالٌ فَقِيرٌ، اسْمُهُ الْهِنْدِبَادُ.فَفِي ذَاتِ يَوْمٍ مِنْ أَيَّامِ الصَّيْفِ، جَلَسَ «الْهِنْدِبَادُ» تَحْتَ قَصْرٍ عَالٍ تُحِيطُ بِهِ حَدِيقَةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ لِيَسْتَرِيحَ مِنْ عَنَاءِ السَّيْرِ، بَعْدَ أَنْ أَنْهَكَهُ التَّعَبُ وَالْحَرُّ الشَّدِيدُ، وَوَضَعَ — إِلَى جَانِبِهِ — حِمْلَهُ الثَّقِيلَ.فَسَرَى إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَدِيقَةِ نَسِيمٌ لَطِيفٌ حَمَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَائِحَةَ الْأَزْهَار الْعَطِرَةِ، وَهَبَّتْ عَلَيْهِ — مِنْ نَاحِيَةِ الْقَصْرِ — رَائِحةُ الشِّوَاءِ اللَّذِيذِ، وَالْأَطْعِمَةِ الشَّهِيَةِ.وَسَمِعَ «الْهِنْدِبَادُ» الطُّيُورَ تُغَرِّدُ — عَلَى اخْتِلَافِ أَنْوَاعِهَا — فَوْقَ الْأَشْجَارِ، كَمَا سَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَ الْغِنَاءِ وَأنْغَامَ الْمُوسِيقَى الْمُطْرِبَةِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْقَصْرِ، فَخُيِّلَ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَهُ فِي عُرُسٍ.القصة السادس من حكايات ألف ليلة وليلة بأسلوب أدبي رائع وبسيطويحكي بأسلوب شيق حكاية السندباد ورحلاته البحرية..
