إن الدين وضع إلهي ومعلمه والداعي إليه البشر، تتلقاه العقول عن المبشرين والمنذرين فهو منسوب لمن لم يختصهم الله بالوحي، ومنقول عنهم بالبلاغ والدراسة والتعليم والتلقين ، وهو عند جميع الأمم أول ما يمتزج بالقلوب ويرسخ في الأفئدة وتصطبغ النفوس بعقائده وما يتبعها من الملكات والعادات ، وتتمرن الأبدان على ما نشأ عنه من الأعمال عظيمها وحقيرها، فله السلطة على الأفكار وما يطاوعها من العزائم والإرادات، فهو سلطان الروح ومرشدها إلى ما تدبر به بدنها، وكأنما الإنسان في نشأته لوح صقيل وأول ما يخط فيه رسم الدين، ثم ينبعث إلى سائر الأعمال بدعوته وإرشاده وما يطرأ على النفوس من غيره فإنما هو نادر شاذ حتى الصفات، بل تبقى طبعته فيه كأثر الجرح في البشرة بعد الاندمال.
