الزبير بن بكار بن عبد الله القرشي الأسدي المكي، من أحفاد الزبير بن العوام، أبو عبد الله: عالم بالأنساب وأخبار العرب، راوية.
ولد في المدينة، وولي قضاء مكة فتوفي فيها.
له تصانيف، منها (أخبار العرب، وأيامها) و (نسب قريش وأخبارها - ط) باسم (جمهرة نسب قريش) و (الأوس والخزرج) و (وفود النعمان على كسرى) و (أخبار ابن ميادة) و (أخبار حسان) و (أخبار عمر بن أبي ربيعة) و (أخبار جميل) و (أخبار نصيب) و (أخبار كثير) و (أخبار ابن الدمينة) وله مجموع في الأخبار ونوادر التاريخ، سماه (الموفقيات - ط) منه أربعة أجزاء 16 و 17 و 18 و 19 ألفه للموفق ابن المتوكل العباسي، وكان يؤدبه في صغره .

هذا الكتاب للزبير ابن بكار احمد عمالقة الرواية في القرن الثالث للهجرة وأحد الحفاظ المتقنين لأخبار العرب في جاهليتها وإسلامها ولاسيما أهل الحجاز وقد كان هذا مرجعا مهما في زمن المؤلف وغيره لما امتاز به من التقصى والجمع والإحاطة وقد قل أن يخلو كتاب في التاريخ والأدب من رواية مستفيضة عن الزبير ابن بكار.. والفرق بين كتاب الزبير وغيره من الكتب الموجودة في النسب في رأى المؤلف هو أنه يجده كتابا ينتعش بحرارة الحياة وسائر كتب النسب هى كالرمي المرصوص وخاصة ان الزبير قد ساق في كتابة شعرا كثيرا جدا لا يكاد يوجد في غيره من كتب الأخبار والشعر وقد أمدنا بالوثائق النافعة في الاستدلال على الحياة الاجتماعية في الجاهلية والإسلام.. إذن هذا كتاب يعتبر أصل من الأصول تتشعب وتتفرع فؤائده كما تتشعب وتتفرغ الأنساب.
