يضيئ هذا الكتاب على حياة وديوان الشاعر "اين حيوس" ولد عام (394هـ- وتوفي عام 453هـ). وبالتعريف هو: الأمير مصطفى الدولة أبو الفتيان محمد بن سلطان بن محمد بن حيوس بن محمد بن المرتضى... بن عثمان الغنوي الدمشقي، نشأ في دمشق في أسرة بالغة الثراء والعلم والتقوى. وتقرب إلى الولاة وأصحاب النفوذ بشعره، ومدحهم وله أكثر من أربعين قصيدة في مدح أنوشتكين وزير الفاطميين؛ حتى إذا تتالت الفتن على دمشق وعمها الدمار –في القرن الرابع هجري- وفقد الأمن وشاع الخوف وذهبت الأموال، بدا لابن حيوس أن يتركها تنفجر في صدره بركاناً من الشعر فقال قبل أن يترك دمسق: لقد دفعنا إلى حالين لست أرى، ما بين ذاك وهذا خط مختار/ إما المقام على خوفٍ ومشغبةٍ، أو الرحيل عن الأوطان والدار.
وبعد ذلك عزم ابن حيوس على ترك دمشق إلى حلب، ومدح ةلاتها من بني مرداس فأكثروا له العطاء وعاش بينهم حتى مات.
إلى ذلك، يضم الكتاب (ديوان ابن حيوس) موزعاً على بحور الشعر العربي الموزون والمقفى ويبدأ بـ "قافية الهمزة" وينتهي بـ "قافية الياء" عرضه المحقق بالاستناد إلى نسخ مخطوطة ثلاث هي: 1- نسخة السلطان سليم القانوني المحفوظة في مكتبة (لا له لي) باستانبول والمرموز إليها بحرف (ل): ديوان ابن حيوس مع صور عن المخطوط الأصلي. 2- نسخة رئيس الكتاب المحفوظة في خزانة عاشر باستانبول، 3- نسخة دار الكتب المصرية.
هذا هو الشاعر الذي أنجبته دمشق قبل نحو أكثر من ألف سنة نقرأ عنه ونتعرف على شعره عبر تحقيق شامل وضعه خليل مردم بك، رئيس مجمع اللغة العربية سابقاً في جزئين حملت عنوان (ديوان ابن حيوس).
