شاعر مصري، ولد بمدينة دمياط في 12 نوفمبر 1960م التحق بقسم الصحافة بكلية الآداب بسوهاج – جامعة أسيوط، وتخرج فيها في مايو 1983.
انضم إلى جريدة الأهرام في 1 من يناير 1985م ليعمل في قسم الأخبار، وفي 18 من فبراير 1995 صدرت مجلة "نصف الدنيا" الأسبوعية ليتولى مهام سكرتير تحرير المجلة، ثم نائباً لرئيس التحرير في مايو 2000.

المرأة أكثر رُقيًّا من الرجُل في مسألة الحُب ، إذ إن الحُبَّ هدفها، ومُبتغاها، وإذا ما غاب الحُبُّ عنها، تعيش حياةً يصيبها الفقد في كُلِّ شيء.وليت الرجل يعرف أنَّ المرأة تحتاجُ إلى العشق أولًا، ثم الوصل الجسدي، يأتي في مرتبةٍ تاليةٍ. وكثير منا يعيش ولا يعرف ما الحُب، ومامكانته؟ وقبل أن تعرف كيف تحب، عليك إدراك ما هو الحب؟ ولماذا نحب؛ لأنَّ الحُبَّ صار ضائعًا وغريبًا بين الناس مُمارسةً وسلوكًا
أحمد الشهاوي في هذا الكتاب يؤكد أن العشق فلسفة الفطرة التي يكون عليها المُحبُّ والمحبُوب؛ وهو أساسُ الفضائل وأصلُها ؛ لأنَّ النفسَ فُطِرت على العشق، فالعشق ديانةٌ يؤمنُ بها من في جوفه قلبٌ ينطقُ. والكتاب يؤكد أن لا حُب يحيا تحت مظلة شرطٍ أو طلبٍ أو غرَضٍ؛ لأننا عندما نعشقُ، يكون اليوم الذي نحياه بألفِ يومٍ مما كُنَّا عليه قبل العشق، لأن عُمر الإنسان يُقاسُ بما (قبل الحُب) ، وبما (بعد الحُب)
