خرجت في جوف الليل والحشيف يواريها تبحث عن خَاتمها المفضوض،تهرول نحو السّوق تبحث عمّن وطئها بغير حق، باكية يملئ وجهُها أخاديد سياط انهال يضرِبُها في كل مكان حتى أدركته بعد عناء بحث طويل، كانت شمطاء جميلة ذات طلّه بهيّة وعيون سوداء واسعة يخالطها البياض؛ وكان وسيم قوى البُنيان ذو شارب كثْ حسن الوجه بشوش وقور ذو مهابة، لم تتمالك نفسها عند رؤيته ففاضت عيناها بالدموع، حدّثته قليلًا عن بوادر حملُها المفاجئ، ارتعدت فرائصه وأخذ صمته يخالط صفير الرياح، فكّر في أمرهم مليّا حتى أعقل نُهيته فأحجم عنها وتركها دون حديث، طلبت إليه إلّا يتركها فلم يبادلها إلاّ الزجر والعزوف، تملّكتها الكراهية فأخذت تعدّ براثن الانتقام، راحت والشّر يتبعها لاجتثاث كذبه المسموم الذي استرسل واستوطنها حتي وقعت في أحابيله البالية التي أودت بها نحو حافة المحظور،
استرأته لأمرهم فدنى مُرغمً لرغبتها دون تفنيد، تلاقت عيناهما مرة أخيرة قبيل الرحيل، ردّد نحنحة في جوفه الظمء ليواري سوءة الصمت ثم رمقها هائمًا في ويلْ عيناها وهاله الغضب التي تطوّق ثغرها الباسم فتكدّر صفوه وتوثب في وجوم وأخذ يدمدم خائفًا من مصير مجهول
-وَيحْ ليلى فلكل عُقدة عقدناها حل!
دبّت هاله النور تسير في وجن--تيها الريانتين قليلًا فأخذ يستعيد رباط جأشه،
تبدّدت ملامحها المزهرة ونضح وجهُها بقطرات من عرق، انهالت بكفّها على وجهه وأخذت تقطع أوصاله، لم يشفع له الحب ولا ليان الأيام،
كانوا كالوتين قبل أن يتملكهم خطأ التصريف، يصرخ بشدّة وألم؛ تقتله بقسوة ونهم حتى توارى والثرى، ما أن أنتهت من إدراك ثأرها حتى سمعت أقدام تعزف موحية بالقدوم، راحت تنهش الأرض بأقدامها لا تعلم وجهتها حتى توارت والظلام..
