يتناول حياة عالم ذاع صيته في العالم، وباحث في العلم والأدب والفلسفة، له دوره البارز في نظرية النسبية،والعلاقة بين المادة والاشعاع،برع في العديد من المجالات العلمية، وأفاد أمته العربية باكتشافاته وأبحاثه، وكتاباته العلمية والأدبية والاجتماعية، إنه د. علي مصطفى مشرفة، الذي ولد في محافظة دمياط ، ودرس في مدرسة المعلمين العليا، ثم جامعة نوتنجهام، والكلية الملكية في لندن عام 1923م وعندما حصل على الدكتوراه، عاد إلى مصر ليعمل أستاذا في كلية العلوم، ثم في مدرسة الطب بوظيفة أستاذ لعلم الطبيعة، ثم عاد مرة أخرى إلى كلية العلوم أستاذا للرياضيات التطبيقية.
شارك علماء الغرب في تطوير النظريات الحديثة في الرياضيات، ونشر أبحاثا كثيرة في كبرى المجلات المتخصصة في العلم، وساهم بآراء مستنيرة في الرياضيات البحتة.
أسهم " مشرفة "في تأسيس ثقافة علمية في الجامعة المصرية، فقام بجعل اللغة العربية أساس البحث العلمي، بانشائه قسما للترجمة العلمية، اختص بترجمة أمهات الكتب العلمية النادرة إلى اللغة العربية.
