يُحكَى بأقدم قصة في التاريخ الإنساني عن مخلوق جديد ظهر بالكون اسمه (آدم) أذهلَ جميع المخلوقات المرئية وغير المرئية بكونه نموذجاً للتميُّز منذ لحظة وصوله، والجدير بالذِّكر أنَّ ذُرِّيَّته انقسمتْ إلى فريقين: الفريق الأول: رأَى بأنَّه من الواجب أن يتميَّز عن باقي الناس بكل الوسائل الممكنة، سواءً بالمادة، أَمْ بالسُّلْطة، أَمْ بالنُّفوذ، أي بكل ما يجعلهم مختلفين عن الباقين، وقد أحبُّوا بأنْ يطلق عليهم "مُمَيَّزون". أما الفريق الثاني: فقد رأَى بأن التَّمَيُّز الحقيقيّ يَكْمُن بما كان عليه الإنسان الأول (آدم)، وهو ما يجب أن يكون عليه الجميع، وهؤلاء هم (البسطاء)، وكان مُسَمَّى (إنسان) يعني لهم الكثير. والنتيجة كانت وما تزال وستبقى بأن أكثر الناس يسعَوْن جاهدين لبلوغ التَّمَيُّز، وقِلَّة قليلة هُم مَن يسعَوْن لبلوغ مرحلة الإنسان العادي بكل ما تحمله الكلمة مِن معنىً، ويستثمر كل ما في فطرته الإنسانية الأصلية مِن مُمَيِّزات. المشكلة هي أنه في هذا الزمان تجد القليل من الناس الذين يملكون أكثر المال والسُّلْطة والقوة، بينما تجد الكثير يتنازع على ما تَبَقَّى منها، فأصبح هناك ازدحام شديد بين مَن يسعَوْن للامتياز، بينما يسود الهدوء بين القلائل الذين يسعَوْن إلى العاديّ المألوف..
