ما بين قلبٍ أراد الحياة، وأقدارٍ أبَتْ أنْ تعطيَه مُتنفَّسًا للحياة، كنتُ أنا، أنا الذي لم أستطعْ أنْ أهرب مِن الأيام والسنوات التي دارت بي كما تدور الرَّحى، فانتزعتُ قلبي وألقيتُه في بحرٍ بلا قرارٍ، كنت أحترمُ عقول الكثيرين، راجيًا أنْ يحترموا قلبي، ولكنْ هيهات! فقد امتلأتْ العقول بما أرادت، وفرِغت القلوب مِن الحبِّ، الذي هو أسمى معاني الحياة، وعندما قرَّرتُ أنْ أعيش أيامي الباقية، أَنْفُضُ عن نفسي تراب أحزاني، وسواد أيامي، أبتسمُ لعلّ ابتسامتي تُعيد لي ما فقده قلبي مِن حنانٍ وأمانٍ، وجدتُ قَدَري المَحتوم يُطلُّ برأسه، ناظرًا إليَّ، تحمل شفتاه كلَّ ألوان السُّخرية، وقتها أدركتُ أنّ ساعتي قدْ حانت، فبادلتُه الابتسام، ولم أملكْ إلّا الاستسلام.
