في الفجر استيقظنا على صُراخ (كيدة) ونَحِيبها، أما أخوها فخرج يلهثُ ويمسح لُعابه بيديه السمراوين المكتظتين. عندما دَخَلْنَا عليها أنا وأمي وجدنا خُصلَات من شَعْرِها ترقد حزينًة بجوار أَرْجُل الفِرَاش، وبقايا شُعَيرات وحيدة متناثرة على وسادتها الباهتة والمتسخة.فَسَأَلَتْها أمي مَنْ فَعَلَ بها هذا الجنون؟أخبرتنا كيدة: إن أخاها عَبَثَ في أوراقها فوجد خطابًا من جارها (حمدي)، ولكنها لم تكن متأكدة أنه يراقبها، وفجأة وجدته أمامها وهي تتحدث مع حمدي على الناصية وقالت لنا إنَّ أخاها (دياب) لَطَمَهَا على صُدْغِها، وقال لها: هتجيبلنا العار، والله لأدبحك، وأحطك في شوَال وأرميكي في تُرْعَة التيرو. إنتي فجرتي يا بت ولَّا إيه؟، والله لمَوِّتك. فهربت منه، واصطدمت قدماها بحجر، وانفلتَ حذاؤها منها، وهَرْوَلَت تجاه البيت.
