ما أتوقّعه هو أن لغتنا قد تواجه، مع مرور الزمن، صعوبات قاسية قد لا تستطيع مواجهتها والنجاة منها إذا لم نفعل لها شيئاً، لذلك تراني لا أؤمن بجدوى اللجوء إلى مساحيق العطّارين التي لا تصلح ما أفسده الدهر، ولا إلى المسكّنات التي تهدّئ الألم إلى حين، ليعود أقوى وأشدّ؛ بل باستخدام مبضع الجرّاح لاستئصال العلّة من مكامنها العميقة؛ فإنه لمن الخير أن نقطع من الجسم عضواً مصاباً من أن يمتدّ المرض إلى الجسم كلّه ويهلكه.
عندما حاول الأتراك، وعلى مدى أربعة قرون من الزمن، طمس هويّتنا العربية عن طريق فرض لغتهم علينا بشتّى الوسائل، ووقف العرب آنذاك بأسرهم مكتوفي الأيدي لا يفعلون شيئاً، انبرى أجدادنا اللبنانيون إلى مقاومة سياسة المحتلّ ومسعاه، واستنبطوا الكرشونيّة كي تبقى اللغة حيّة على الألسنة كما في القلوب . وها أنذا اليوم، وبكلّ فخر، أراني مَسوقاً بدافع شعور وطنيّ وقوميّ للسير على طريق الأجداد في النضال من أجل لغتنا، ولكن على جبهة أخرى، لأن الخطر الخارجيّ هذه المرّة قد غيّر اتّجاهه؛ فبعدما أتانا في سالف الزمان من الشمال، ها هو يشرئبّ اليوم برأسه من الغرب، حمْلته اسمها العولمة، وأسلحته ثقافة جديدة، وأخلاقيّات جديدة، وثلاث لغات هي الإنكليزية والفرنسية والإسبانية. أما الخطر الداخليّ، وهو الأشدّ، فهو ناتج عن الصراع الأبديّ بين الفصحى وأختها العامية، وعن هُزال الحرف العربيّ بحدّ ذاته. وإني إذ أقول عن هذا الصراع أبديّ، فلأنني مؤمن بأنه- ويا للأسف- لن يتوقّف، وقد تسدّد فيه العامية للفصحى ضربات موجعة.
