يمثل مصطلح " جبل الثلج العائم " الذي يطلق على المعنى والدلالة الظاهرة في النص القصصي, جانبا مهما في إضاءة النصوص القصصية المعتمدة على استجابة القارئ لمنطق التلقي والتأويل.
إن كل نص قصصي به جبل ثلج عائم يطل من نسيج النص وتتمحور حوله دلالة معينة, وفكرة محددة يعوّل عليها الكاتب في التعبير, ويختار لها الشكل الفني والمعمار المناسب,وأيضا التقنيات الملائمة لإبرازها في مدونة فنية تسهم في تجسيد وتشكيل عالمه الفني الخاص, والقصة القصيرة فن مراوغ يحمل داخله العديد من الثميات التي توّهج بنيته السردية.
وفي هذه الدراسات التي تناولها الكتاب بعض الأعمال القصصية لكتّاب بعضهم ضرب بسهم وافر في هذا المجال والبعض ما زال في بداية الطريق.
