تلك الرغبة والرهبة هي الخضوع المطلق للذات العالية، وذلك الخضوع هو الدين الذي هو جوهر الكتاب ، فالدين عماد الحياة ومحورها الذي تدور حوله، والإنسان بلا دين لن تدخل الطمأنينة إلى قلبه ولم يقر له قرار. ومن هنا تنتابه الاضطرابات والهواجس وسيرى القارئ أن الدين عند المؤلف ليس ملجأ الضعفاء، ولكنه سلاح الأقوياء.
