هيو لوفتينج: كاتب بريطاني وُلد عام ١٨٨٦م في مدينة ميدينهيد بإنجلترا. تلقى تعليمه المبكر في مدينة شيفيلد، وبعدها انتقل إلى الولايات المتحدة لدراسة الهندسة المدنية في معهد ماساتشوستس للتكنولوجيا. عمل مهندسًا مدنيًّا قبل أن يشارك في الحرب العالمية الأولى. ولمَّا لم يكن يرغب في الكتابة لأبنائه عن أهوال الحرب، كتب خطابات تخيلية كانت النواة التي ارتكزت عليها «رحلات الدكتور دوليتل» الشهيرة.
