وبالطبع فإن طبيعة الشائعة والهدف منها وطرق التصدي لها تختلف اليوم في عالم الإنترنت ومواقع التواصل الإجتماعي عنها منذ قرن مثلا في بدايات البث الإذاعي والعرض السينمائي، وذلك بالطبع يختلف عن المرحلة السابقة التي لم تكن تعرف إلا أشكالا محدودة من الصحافة.
