وفي إحصائية أمريكية وجد بعض الباحثين أنه في المتوسط يوجد في البيت الأمريكي جهاز تلفزيون يعمل خمس ساعات ونصف، ويشاهد المرء في المتوسط منذ الثانية من عمره حتى 65 سنة ما يعادل تسع سنوات طيلة حياته ، وقبل تخرج العديد من تلاميذ الثانوية فإنهم يكونون قد شاهدوا ما يزيد عن عشرين ألف ساعة، وبالمقابل فإنهم يكونون قد قضوا خمس عشرة ألف ساعة في المدرسة.
