قرَّرَ الْجَدُّ ضفدع الْخُرُوجَ لِاسْتِكْشَافِ الْعَالَمِ الْكَبِيرِ الَّذِي يَكْمُنُ وَرَاءَ عَالَمِهِ الْمَأْلُوفِ الَّذِي يَقْتَصِرُ عَلَى الْبِرْكَةِ الْبَاسِمَةِ وَالْجَدْوَلِ الضَّاحِكِ وَالْمُرُوجِ الْخَضْرَاءِ وَالْغَابَةِ الْخَضْرَاءِ، وَلَكِنَّهُ عَجُوزٌ عَنِيدٌ، أَوْقَعَهُ عِنَادُهُ وَحَمَاقَتُهُ فِي وَرْطَةٍ بَعْدَ أُخْرَى؛ فَمَا كَادَ يَخْطُو خَارِجَ عَالَمِهِ الصَّغِيرِ، حَتَّى وَقَعَ فِي شِرَاكِ الطَّمَعِ وَالتَّفَاخُرِ وَالْإِهْمَالِ؛ فَتَارَةً يُفْلِتُ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَنْيَابِ كَلْبِ الصَّيْدِ باوزر بِأُعْجُوبَةٍ، وَتَارَةً أُخْرَى مِنْ قَبْضَةِ ابْنِ الْمُزَارِعِ براون، وَتَارَةً مِنْ بَيْنِ بَرَاثِنِ الْقِطَّةِ بسبس. فِي كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ كَانَ أَصْدِقَاؤُهُ الْمُخْلِصُونَ يَهُبُّونَ لِنَجْدَتِهِ وَيَنْصَحُونَهُ بِالْعُدُولِ عَنْ مُغَامَرَتِهِ الْخَطِيرَةِ، وَلَكِنْ دُونَ جَدْوَى. فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ نُتَابِعُ مَعًا سِلْسِلَةً مِنَ الْمُغَامَرَاتِ الشَّائِقَةِ وَالْخَطِرَةِ الَّتِي خَاضَهَا الْجَدُّ ضفدع وَجَعَلَتْهُ يَتَمَنَّى لَوْ لَمْ يَخْطُ بِقَدَمِهِ خَارِجَ عَالَمِهِ الصَّغِيرِ الْحَبِيبِ.
