من درس كتاب "حضارة العرب" وإنعام النظر فيه يتبين للقارئ أن العلامة غوستاف لوبون سلك فى تأليفه طريقاً جديداً لم يسبقه إليه أحد، وأنه حاول فيه بعث حضارة العرب من مرقدها وإظهارها للملأ على وجهها الصحيح، ولم يأل العلامة لوبون جهداً فى درس حضارة العرب مستنداً إلى أهم المؤلفات التاريخية وإلى مشاهداته الشخصية، فجاء كتابه جامعاً لكثير مما فى تاريخ حضارة العرب من العظات والعبر، وقد أكثر بعض كتابنا من الاستشهاد بجمل منه عند بحثهم فى تاريخ الحضارة فصار من الضرورى نقله بأسره إلى اللغة العربية.
وهذا الكتاب صحيح المناحى والغاليات فى مجموعه، وهو كغيره من الكتب المهمة، لا يخلو من هفوات لا تخفى على القارئ، ولكن هذه الهفوات لا تحط من قيمته العظيمة، وقد أشرت إلى أهمها فى هذه المقدمة.
وبحث العلامة غوستاف لوبون في طبائع العرب وعاداتهم ونظمهم في مختلف الأقطار كما كانت عليه في النصف الأخير من القرن التاسع عشر، فعلى القارئ أن يلاحظ ذلك، وأن يعلم أن هذا الكتاب ظهر في سنة 1884، وأن طبائع العرب وعاداتهم تحولت بعض التحول منذ ذلك التاريخ بفعل مبتكرات العلوم والفنون والصناعة، ويفعل علاقات أمم الشرق الوثيقة بأمم الغرب في الزمن الحاضر.
