تقترب الرواية وتنهل من كثير من الحكايات الحقيقة في المنطقة العربية وكذلك لتجاوزات الجهاز وأفراده، ولكنها تنبش أيضا في عقل ونفس هذا الإنسان الذي حولته ممارساته إلى كائن جديد، فلا هو قادر على الحب دون ريبة، ولا راض عما هو فيه، فكأنه ممثل لقول المتنبي “على قلقٍ كأن الريح تحتي”.
تقدم الرواية -التي كتبت قبل أحداث ثورة 25 يناير ولم يكتب لها أن تنشر إلا بعدها- رؤية لممارسات هذا الجهاز المخيف من داخل عقل ضابط بالجهاز، عقل تصطخب فيه المشاعر المضطربة تجاه محبوبة أكثر اضطرابا بالقلق المستمر حول المستقبل بالصور القاسية من ماضي الطفولة والمراهقة، تتفاعل كلها لتنتج قاتلا شغوفا ومحبا مجنونا وبقايا إنسان.
