مارون بن حنا بن الخوري يوحنا عبّود (1886 - 1962)، كاتب وأديب لبناني كبير.. ولد في عين كفاع (من قرى جبيل).
حياته
في سنواته في المدرسة أبدى ميولا أدبية وتفوق في مجال اللغة العربية كما أصدر في عامه الدراسي الأخير مجلة أدبية أسماها الصاعقة. كان قد بدأ بكتابة القصائد ونشر بعضها في جريدة الروضة. أدخله إلى مدرسة مار يوحنا مارون. التي أمضى فيها أربعة أعوام ولكنه رفض الأستمرار فيها لأن أباه كان يقصد بإلحاقه بها أن يهيأه للحياة الكهنوتية ما رغب عنه مارون ورفضه رفضا قاطعا. بعد ذلك التحق بمدرسة الحكمة حيث أمضى فيها سنتين. وقد وجد مارون في هذه المدرسة الجو المؤاتي لتفتح مواهبه الأدبية كما احتك بعدد من الطلاب المولعين بالشعر أمثلا: رشيد تقي الدين وأحمد تقي الدين وسعيد عقل وغيرهم.
وفاته
توفي مارون عبود عام 1962 عن عمر يناهز السابعة والسبعين.

يعبِّر هذا الكتاب عن أبَدِيَّةِ الصراع بين القديم والجديد عن طريق استحضار المقابلات الشعرية بين أشعار الشعراء القُدامى والمُحْدثين؛ من أجل قياس أوجه التقليد والتجديد في أشعارهم بواسطة بُصْلَةِ التقدير الشعري للقديم والجديد في تلك الأشعار. ويعبر الكاتب من خلال هذا المُؤَلَّف عن قيمة جدلية في قياس فنية الشعر؛ وهي أنَّ عُقْم الجمال في مسيرة الشعر يَكْمُنُ في اجترار أو تكرار المعاني؛ وهذا بدوره يتعارض مع طبيعة الشعر الذي يتسم أصحابه بالسمو فوق فضاءات الواقع. وإنه لمن جِدَّة الحق الفني أنْ نقول: إنَّ هذا الكتاب جاء معبرًا عن زَخَمٍ فنيٍّ وشعري في لبنان؛ ويتجلَّى ذلك من خلال المساجلات الشعرية التي كان الوصول إلى التجديد فيها أشبه بلُقيان المعالي.
