تُرَاها تُفنِي الشَّبابَ كَثرةُ الأَحْزان؟ ربَّما! وربَّما يَفنَى الشاعرُ الجسدُ ويَخلُدُ الشاعرُ القَصِيد، وهي حالُ صاحِبِ هذا الدِّيوان؛ «عزيز فهمي» الذي تَنبَّأَ شيطانُ شِعرِه في قَصِيدتِه «يا قارئ الكف» بمَوتِه غَرَقًا. يَغلِبُ على قَصائِدِ دِيوانِه تَبصُّرٌ بأَلوانِ الحَياة؛ تَبصُّرٌ لا يُدرِكُه إلَّا مَن أَدركَ قِسْطًا وَافرًا مِن حقائقِ الحَياةِ والمَوت، فنَراه يُنشِدُ «يا فتاتي»، و«سبَّحَ القلب»، و«مُناجاة طفل»، ويَرصُدُ «هَمْس الساعة»، ويَصِفُ في «الشاعر» نفسَه بعُلُوِّها وتَسامِيها معَ ما يُثقِلُها مِن شَجَن، وفي «نَذرْتُ نفسي قُرْبانًا لفادِيها» يَتحدَّى برُوحِ الوَطنِيةِ والشِّعرِ ظُلماتِ السِّجْن، وفي «بَنِي وطني أهبتُ بِكُم زَمانًا» يَستنهضُ عَزائمَ الشَّبابِ مِن أَجلِ الوَطَن، وفي غَيرِ ما قَصيدةٍ يَرثِي أبطالَ وأدباءَ عَصرِه، أمثالَ: «عُمر المختار»، و«أحمد شوقي»، و«خليل مطران»، ويَنظمُ أُخرى في حقِّ «طه حسين» الذي أُعجِبَ بشِعرِ «عزيز» أيَّما إعجاب.
