مارون بن حنا بن الخوري يوحنا عبّود (1886 - 1962)، كاتب وأديب لبناني كبير.. ولد في عين كفاع (من قرى جبيل).
حياته
في سنواته في المدرسة أبدى ميولا أدبية وتفوق في مجال اللغة العربية كما أصدر في عامه الدراسي الأخير مجلة أدبية أسماها الصاعقة. كان قد بدأ بكتابة القصائد ونشر بعضها في جريدة الروضة. أدخله إلى مدرسة مار يوحنا مارون. التي أمضى فيها أربعة أعوام ولكنه رفض الأستمرار فيها لأن أباه كان يقصد بإلحاقه بها أن يهيأه للحياة الكهنوتية ما رغب عنه مارون ورفضه رفضا قاطعا. بعد ذلك التحق بمدرسة الحكمة حيث أمضى فيها سنتين. وقد وجد مارون في هذه المدرسة الجو المؤاتي لتفتح مواهبه الأدبية كما احتك بعدد من الطلاب المولعين بالشعر أمثلا: رشيد تقي الدين وأحمد تقي الدين وسعيد عقل وغيرهم.
وفاته
توفي مارون عبود عام 1962 عن عمر يناهز السابعة والسبعين.

«من الجراب» "نريد أن نبني وطنًا يكون لنا فيه بيت، لا أن نبني بيتًا يكون لنا وطنًا"، هذا هو الشّعار الذي انطلق منه المؤلّف مارون عبّود في كتابه «من الجراب»، ويذكُر المنجد عدّةَ معانٍ للجراب: قراب السيف، وعاء من جلد، جوف البئر، الجراب كاسمه، ولهذا اختصّه العوامّ بكنايات واستعارات شتّى، فقالوا جراب الكردي، ثمّ كنّوا عن الرّجل سليط اللسان بقولهم: فتح جرابه. وإذا ثرثر حتى شبع يقولون: فرغ جرابه، وقالوا عن الكلام المر: من كعب الجراب. كما قالوا عن الكذّاب: من يعوم على جرابه.
جاء هذا الكتاب بعدما حصل لبنان على استقلاله، هادفًا إلى وضع أسُس بناء دولة جديدة، وشأن مارون كأي من أبناء الوطن، يساهم في إعادة البناء، فيناقش ما يتعلّق بالانتخابات البرلمانيّة، ويضع أسُس انتخاب النوّاب، ويبيّن دورَهم الفاعل في نمو المجتمع، والسّعي به نحو حياة فُضلى.
أورد الكتاب قضايا أخرى مثل ضرورة الاهتمام بكليّات الطب، وزيادة مخصّصات التعليم، وأشار إلى حق المرأة في الترشّح، وتطرّق إلى مشكلة توريث المناصب.
