احتوى الكتاب على قصّة السرير الرهيب لـ "وليم كولنز"، ونفس رضيّة لكاتبها "وليم هيل هوايت"، و"أناندا" لـ "يتشارد جارنت"، كما عرضَ أربع مقالاتٍ لـ"هنري جيمس"، وأورد لـ"روبرت ستيفنسون" قصّةَ سيّد الباب، وللكاتب "أوسكار وايلد" عيد ميلاد الأميرة. ورجل فقير لـ"جورج جوسنج"، وبيت يولالي لـ"هنري هارلاند"، وقصّة تقرير لـ"وليم بورتر"، ولـ"هـ. ج. ولز" آلة الزّمان.
روعي في الاختيار إبراز أسلوب الكاتب وخصائصه الفنيّة، والتّعريف به والإشارة إلى فنّه لمن يعنيه التوسّع في البحث، كما توخّى في الترجمة إبراز أسلوب الكاتب لا المُترجم، ولم يكن هذا سهلًا لشدّة التفاوت.
