يُعَد فيليب ك. ديك واحدًا من رواد أدب الخيال العلمي في القرن العشرين، وقد تميزت أعماله باكتساب طابع سياسي أو فلسفي أو اجتماعي، بدأ النشر سنة 1950 وبلغت أعماله 44 رواية منشورة و121 قصة قصيرة نُشرت في مجلات الخيال العلمي، محققًا نجاحًا كبيرًا، وتحولت عدة روايات إلى أفلام سينمائية ناجحة مثل Blade Runner وTotal Recall وغيرها.
تناولت قصص ديك العديد من الثيمات؛ مثل الحكم الشمولي، والاحتكار الرأسمالي، وإدمان المخدرات، وتغيير وعي الإنسان، والعوالم الموازية، وفي بعض الأحيان تأخذ أعماله طابع سريالي، مما جعل النقاد يصفونه بأنه الرجل الذي حول الخيال العلمي إلى لوحة فنية.
