أحاط ابن الكندي بجميع المعارف ، وأضاف إلى ذلك رأي الإسلام ، حيث أدمج التراث الفلسفي اليوناني في الثقافة الإسلامية فكانت بذلك الفلسفة هي النظرة الشاملة التي تربط بين جميع العلوم ، وهو الذي سن للعرب سنة الاعتماد على العلوم ليتم التفلسف بعد ذلك .
تضمن هذا الكتاب بعضاً من رسائله الفلسفية المتعددة في علم الأشياء بحقائقها والوجود الحسي من الوجود العقلي و العلة والمعلول والعقل والنفس والأبداع والحركة و التوهم والإرادة والمحبة و غيرها من المواضيع الفلسفية التي تحدث عنها جميع الفلاسفة.
ففي رسالته الأولى للمعتصم بالله في الفلسفة الأولى يقول : " إن أعلى الصناعات الإنسانية منزلة وأشرفها مرتبة ، صناعة الفلسفة التي حدها : علم الأشياء بحقائقها بقدر طاقة الإنسان ، لأن غرض الفيلسوف في علمه إصابة الحق ، وفي عمله العمل بالحق .. وأشرف الفلسفة وأعلاها مرتبة الفلسفة الأولى : أعني علم الحق الأول الذي هو علة كل حق " .
من الرسائل العديدة في هذ الكتاب القيّم:

- رسالة في القول في النفس، المختصر من كتاب أرسطو.
- رسالة في وحدانية الله و تناهي جرم العالم.
