هو كتابٌ للمؤلّف الإنجليزي ي. دني، وقد قام بترجمة هذا الكتاب إلى العربيّة الكاتب إبراهيم رمزي، لأنه رأى قلّةً من الكتب في الأدب العربي المصري تختصّ بعلم الأخلاق الحقيقي، كما أنه قد وُضعت بعض الكتب في علوم السلوك والواجبات والنصائح، لكنها لم تأتِ من باب العلم الذي هو المعرفة المُبوّبة والمُقسَّمة تبعًا للطريقة.
تُرجم الكتاب مع العمل على إيضاح الجانب العلميّ فيه، رغم أنه كان قليلًا بعض الشيء، ربّما يعود ذلك إلى صغر حجم الكتاب، كما تصرّف رمزي في جزءٍ منه ليكون بمثابة الكتاب الأول في علم الأخلاق، ويُبرز المطلوب منه كي يستقيمَ كتابًا في علم الاجتماع والقانون والأخلاق.
تناول الكتاب علم الأخلاق ومذاهبه، والتأثير المتبادل فيما بينها وبين الشعور، كما احتوى على دراسة للفضيلة الأدبية وعلاقتها بالقانون ونشأته وتطوّره، وتطرّق إلى الضمير أو الوجدان، ونظرة المجتمع إلى الواجب، وقدّم نظرةً في الفضائل بالتفصيل، وتحدّث عن تكوين الفضائل النفسية أو التربية الأدبية، وتناول تكوين العادات، والنّظم المدرسيّة.
