"كان عمر الداعوق، من أشد المتمسكين بالأرض والأبنية، ومن الداعين إلى عدم التفريط بهما، ورغم قوله: "يا حجر يا حجر" (أي يا بناية يا ذهب)، إلا أنه كان يفضل الأرض على البناء والذهب، وكان يدعو إلى زراعة الأراضي واستثمارها، لا إلى بيعها، ويحث على ضرورة تأمين بيت في بيروت أولاً، ثم في الجبل ثانياً.
وبذلك، لم يؤمن عمر الداعوق بجمع الأموال التي يجنيها من التجارة، وتكديسها في البنوك، بل كان يفضل تحويل بعضها إلى ليرات عثمانية ذهباً، وتحويل معظمها إلى عقارات، فاشترى الأراضي والأبنية، وبخاصة في سوق الطويلة وغيرها من الأسواق التجارية في بيروت.
وقد أثبتت الأيام بعد وفاته سنة 1949، أن هذه العقارات تحولت إلى ثروة كبيرة لورثته من بعده، وأن الأموال المكدسة في البنوك تفقد قيمتها الشرائية مع مرور الزمن.
