واقدم ما عرف عن تلك الجوهرة أنها كانت تزين جبين تمثال إله القمر ذي الاذرع الاربع ومن أجل هذا الاصل التاريخي ولغرابة لونها ايضا اشتهرت باسم جوهرة القمر ... وترجع بداية مغامرات الماسة الصفراء الى مطلع القرن الحادي عشر ففي ذلك التاريخ استولى السلطان محمود الغزنوي على مدينة " سمنوت " المقدسة واتى على كل ما كان فيها من الاصنام .. فلم ينج من هذا المصير سوى صنم إله القمر اذ استنقذه ثلاثة من كهان البراهمة وحملوه خفية الى مدينة " بنارس " وهناك اقيم له هيكل جديد ثم ظهر الإله " فشنو " لكثير من اتباعه البراهمة في منامهم وامر ان تحرس ماسة القمر ليلا ونهارا بإشراف ثلاثة كهان وتنبأ بكوارث تحل بمن تمتد ايديهم الى الجوهرة المقدسة .. وفي اوائل القرن الثامن عشر دك هيكل الصنم ذي الاذرع الاربع وتم الاستيلاء على جوهرة القمر بأمر اورنجزيب إمبراطور المغول وجعلت الجوهرة تنتقل من يد الى يد .. ناقلة لعنتها معها ...
