كان السلطان محمد الفاتح قائدا كبيرا، وكان كذلك رئيس دولة منظم،
وفنان وحاكم يرعى الفنون، وسلطانا عظيما يهتم بالفلسفة والفكر الحر،
وكانت تجرى المناقشات في حضوره
وكان الفاتح قد قرأ الكتب الخاصة بفلاسفة اليونان القدماء، والكتب التي
تتحدث عن هيرودوت، والمؤرخ الروماني تيتوس ليفيوس، وكوينتوس
كورتيوس، والإسكندر الأكبر، والبابوات والأباطرة، وملوك فرنسا وذلك
منذ أن كان أميرا.
وقال بعض الكتاب في عصر النهضة أن الأتراك كان أصلهم من طروادة،
وذكروا في كتبهم أن مجموعة من أهل طروادة الذين رحلوا إلى آسيا أي
الأتراك قد عادوا، وانتقموا من اليونانيين، وكان السلطان محمد الفاتح قد
أحاط بكل ما كتب، وهز رأسه عندما كان في أطلال طروادة، وقال " لقد
حفظني الله تعالى حتى هذا الوقت لانتقم لهذه المدينة وأهلها ، وقد
انتصرنا على أعداء هذه المدينة، واستولينا على أوطانهم، وبالرغم من
مرور فترة طويلة، فقد ثأرنا من أحفادهم بسبب هذه الأفعال السيئة التي
ارتكبوها ضد الآلآسيويين
