أمام واقع اللّغة العربيّة المتردّي لدى طلّابنا في بلادنا العربيّة، نرى كيف أنّ الكتّاب والباحثين يعترفون بوجود هذه المشكلة الكبرى. تشير نزيهة وهابي إلى أنّ الأصوات ترتفع بين الحين و الآخر في جميع الأقطار العربيّة شاكيةً الضعف العام في اللّغة العربيّة، ومتألّمةً من الوضع المؤسف الذي وصلت إليه هذه اللّغة على أيدي أبنائها. وفي منتديات بوّابة العرب تعترف سهام نعمان أنّ مدارس التعليم العام وكذلك الجامعات تشهد ضعفًا بارزًا في أوساط الطلبة في اللّغة العربيّة وفي مستوى الإقبال عليها. وقد أصبح هذا التدنّي ظاهرة مُقلقة من ظواهر التردّي الثقافي والعلمي الّذي يلفّ أمّتنا العربيّة، ولم يسلم من هذا الضعف حتّى طلّاب الدراسات العليا من المتخصّصين في اللّغة العربيّة.
الأسباب كثيرة ومنها عدم تناسب الكتاب المدرسي مع متطلبات المتعلّم الفكريّة والنفسية والاجتماعيّة، طغيان العامّية في حصّة تعليم اللّغة العربيّة، ضعف أساليب التقويم، النقص في إعداد المعلّم، عدم فعّالية طرائق التدريس المعتمدة وغياب عنصر التشويق، عدم الاستثمار الكافي لكتب أدب الأطفال، وغيرها من الأسباب التي يشير إليها الباحثون في هذا المجال. وقد أصبح من المعروف أنّ جميع سنوات الدراسة التي يمضيها التلميذ في المدرسة لا تؤدّي به إلى إتقان القراءة والكتابة بل تزيده نفورًا من اللّغة العربيّة.
