مرت مصر فى الفترة الأخيرة بأحداث وضعتها على أعتاب التحول الديمقراطى، فتفاعلت وسائل الإعلام بمختلف أنماط ملكيتها، وباختلاف توجهات مالكيها، مع تلك الأحداث؛ ومن ثَمَّ يستهدف هذا الكتاب رصد وتحليل العلاقة بين ملكية وسائل الإعلام والممارسة الديمقراطية وصنع القرار السياسى، من خلال الوقوف على تأثير نمط ملكية وسائل الإعلام فى طرق معالجة هذه الوسائل لقضايا التحول الديمقراطى، ومعرفة إلى أى مدًى تميل الوسائل الإعلامية إلى معالجة تلك القضايا من منظور اقتصادى سياسى يخدم مصالح مالكيها، مع محاولة تحديد نمط الملكية الذى صدرت القوانين المعنية بقضايا التحول الديمقراطى من قِبَل صنّاع القرار السياسى وفقًا لرؤيته ومطالبه ومعالجته لهذه القضايا، وكذلك رصد أبرز المعوقات التى قد تحول دون التحول الديمقراطى فى مصر.
فضلًا عن ذلك، يرصد الكتاب عددًا كبيرًا من القضايا الحيوية، منها على سبيل المثال: الواقع المعاصر لأنماط ملكية وسائل الإعلام والممارسة الديمقراطية: عالميًّا ومحليًّا، وتقديم نماذج عالمية ومحلية فى هذا الشأن، والعلاقة بين وسائل الإعلام وصنع القرار السياسى، وإشكاليات العلاقة بينهما، مع عرض دراسة تطبيقية معنية بهذا الأمر، واقتراح نموذج حول العلاقة بين وسائل الإعلام ــ بمختلف أنماط ملكيتها ــ وعملية التحول الديمقراطى، ومتطلبات هذه العلاقة وشروطها العامة... وذلك كله فى خلال الإطار الزمنى المحدد للكتاب.
