رواية موثّقة تدور أحداثهــا في فرنسا يغطي جزؤها الأول الفترة الممتدة بين 4 حزيران/يونيو 1940 حين كانت القوات الألمــانية تستعدّ لغزو بــــاريس وحتى 1 تموز/يوليو 1941 عندما غادر بعض الجنود الألمان فرنسا ليشاركوا في الهجوم على الاتحاد السوفياتي. ويؤرخ الجزء الثاني لما دار من أحداث في قرية بوسّي الرازحة تحت الاحتلال الألماني.
أسلوب واقعي مدهش يلمُّ بمختلف تفاصيل الحياة الحافلة بالمفاجآت في زمن استثنائي جدّاً.
يوميات لعائلات ثرية تهاجر خوفاً من الحرب، أطفال يُهرَّبون في الشاحنات العسكرية، جنود مخذولون، مديرو مصارف يعلنون تشاؤمهم، كهنة يعانون سوء طالع وبائعات هوى يتجوّلن يائسات!!
علاقات سرية بين جنود ألمان ونسوة فرنسيات تكشف كيفية تعامل الألمان الغزاة مع المجتمع الفرنسي.
