يوتا اليوم مهندس يعمل خمسة أيام أسبوعياً، ما عدا يوميّ العطلة الأسبوعية فقط فهما فترة راحة لنفسه. شاب يعيش وحده في شقة صغيرة. جدّه هو آخر من تبقّى من عائلته. كان عاشقاً منذ ثلاثة أشهر، لكنه اليوم يحملُ قلباً مشتاقاً.
اختفت حبيبته عن حياته تماماً كاختفاء البشر عند انفجار القنبلة. اختفوا تماماً، أصبحوا رماداً لا أثر لهم. لكنه مليء بآثارها داخله. قلبه مهجور كالمنزل المهجور، مليء بالأتربة وآثار البشر.
يوتا شابٌ طموح، حياته رتيبة. عاش مع جدّه طوال طفولته حتى بدأ بالعمل، فانتقل للعيش وحده في شقة صغيرة. لم يعش كثيراً من اللحظات الشيقة في حياته. لكنه كان سعيداً مع جده. حتى بُهرَت حياته، وأصبح هناك ما يعيش من أجله. التقى بحبيبته، ولكنها سرعان ما اختفت فعاد إلى الرتابة نفسها. رأى جدّه شيئاً مختلفاً في عينيه من بعد فقدانه لحب حياته، فبدأ يعنيه باهتمام خاص. عنايةٌ لا يمكن أن تكون إلا من جدّه.
كان يوتا متعلقاً بذلك الحدث قبل سنوات. حدث دخوله عبر الكتاب. ومنذ أول دخولٍ له وهو في انتظار دائم.
"لن أذهب اليوم، يمكنني أخذ إجازة مرضية".
دخل يوتا المكتبة، فانتشى برائحة خشبها كما هي دوماً. مرَّر يديه على أحد الأرفف الخشبية مشتاقاً لملمس الخشب المنّعم. أخذ يطوف داخل المكتبة دون معرفة نواياه. تجوّل بعينيه في أرفف المكتبة جميعها متأملاً. لمح اهتزازاً لكتاب وإضاءة أحرفه تماما كالمرة الماضية. ركض إليه. مدّ يديه المرتجفة نحوه. يده البيضاء التي رافقتها الشمس حتى أصبحت قمحية اللون، بأصابعه الطويلة ومفاصلها البارزة. أخذ نفساً عميقاً، وفتحه.
