بعد حديث قصير مع جيسون سألته أخيرًا: "جيسون، أنت ملياردير وواحد من أكثر الذين أعرفهم نجاحًا دون ريب. أجبني بصدق، هل للمال أن يشتري السعادة؟ هل تشعر بالسعادة لأنك تعيش في مثل هذا المنزل الثمين، ولأنك تعلم أن في وسعك شراء أي شيء تريده؟".
نظر جيسون إليّ وابتسم وقال: "أندريه، حين كنت طفلًا كنت أعيش في موقف مقطورات مع والديّ وكنت متعطشًا للنجاح. فبدأت أعمل في سن صغيرة جدًا ولن تصدق ذلك، لكنني حين بت قادرًا على استئجار شقتي الصغيرة الأولى كنت أسعد مخلوق على الأرض، وأسعد كثيرًا مما كنت عليه حين اشتريت هذا المنزل الذي نحن فيه الآن. أتعرف لمَ؟ لأن الفرق بين مقطورة وشقة صغيرة جميلة أكبر منه بكثير بين شقة صغيرة ومنزل يكلف ملايين الدولارات. الحال نفسها مع السيارات، الفرق بين ألا تملك سيارة وأن تملك سيارة هوندا سيفيك جديدة على سبيل المثال أكبر منه بكثير بين سيارتي هوندا سيفيك جديدة وبورش. والحال نفسها مع السفر، الفرق بين ألا تكون لديك فرص سفر وأن تسافر جوًا في الفئة الاقتصادية أكبر منه بكثير بين السفر في الفئة الاقتصادية وفي طائرات خاصة. لذلك أقول بأن المال يمكنه فعلًا التأثير في السعادة، لكن فقط بقدر معين. أقول بأن مطور برامج عاديًا أو ممرضة أو سائق شاحنة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية قادر على أن يجلب لنفسه 95% من السعادة التي يمكن للمال شراؤها. بمجرد أن تصبح مليارديرًا لا يسعك أن تحصل إلا على قدر إضافي ضئيل من السعادة التي يمكن للمال شراؤها؛ الـ 5% المتبقية".
