يدور موضوع الكتاب حول عمل مافيا المخدرات في العالم وبالتحديد على الحدود الفاصلة بين غاليسيا والبرتغال وسط أجواء مذهلة تكشف عملية السعي للسيطرة على هذه المنطقة الجغرافية من العالم. إنها غاليسيا... تلك المقاطعة التي لم تكن يوماً وادعة على شاطئ الموت، هي التي وجدت في التهريب خشبة خلاص من الفقر والبطالة، والتي اعتبرت المهربين يوماً رواداً اقتصاديين، لكن صورتهم تلك تهمشت، إذ فقدوا حاضنتهم الاجتماعية إثر تحولهم من تهريب التبغ (الدخن) إلى تهريب الكوكايين الكولومبي والإتجار به.
لقد تحول هذا الأمر إلى سرطان تفشى في الجسد الغاليسي، ولطّخ بأصابعه القذرة السياسيين ورجال تطبيق القانون، وعلى حد قول قاضياً مهماً من غاليسيا: "في غاليسيا، كانت كل الأحزاب من دون استثناء تموَّل من قبل تجار المخدرات".
وفي ظل هذا العالم الخفي ومنظماته السرية وعصاباته الذائعة الصيت أصبح بعض الناس يشبّهون غاليسيا بصقليا، وتجار المخدرات الغاليسيين بالمافيا والكامورا الإيطالية؛ إلى أن تصدى شرفاء مدنيون وعسكريون فكانت الحملات الأمنية والتجمعات المدنية التي غيرت الوضع القائم إلى أفضل. واليوم تقوم مقاطعة غاليسيا ومعهد السياحة في أوبورتو بإدارة مشروع لإعادة إحياء ذكرى خطوط تهريب التنغستن عبر متاحف ورحلات. إنها فكرة جيدة في منطقة مثل غاليسيا حيث إن النسيان بات واجباً، وممارسة يومية.
«قفازات مخمليّة قذرة»: هي قصة مجتمع عاش على التهريب، ثم عاد لينتفض عليه عندما كاد يهوي به إلى الدرك الأسفل.
