رياض الأطفال أو ما يطلق عليها مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة تشكل اللبنة الأولى فى حياة الطفل وإعداده للمراحل المقبلة من حياته، ومن خلال هذه المرحلة يتحدد مستقبل الطفل، فلا بد من تنمية مهاراته المختلفة واكتشاف مواهبه، أو اكتشاف مشكلاته الاجتماعية والنفسية والعقلية وغيرها، ومن خلالها يتحدد مصيره الاكاديمى والعلمى، وتعتبر فترة الطفولة المبكرة فترة ضرورية للطفل لهذا تحرص الكثير من الدول على أن تكون مرحلة رياض الاطفال مرحلة الزامية، وتجعل هذه المرحلة مرحلة أساسية يشترط أن يجتازها الطفل لينتقل إلى مرحلة التعليم الابتدائي.
ولن تنجح هذه المرحلة بالشكل المطلوب إلا إذا اعددنا برنامجا شاملا كاملا لطفل الروضة فى المرحلتين الأولى والثانية تلبى جميع احتياجاته وتراعى خصائص نموه ولن يتم ذلك أيضا إلا بتدريب مشرفات ومعلمات رياض الأطفال على كيفية إعداد وتنفيذ البرنامجإلىومى بالرياض والوقوف على الخصائص المختلفة لطفل رياض الأطفال فى المرحلة الأولى والمرحلة الثانية.
من خلال ملاحظتى واستطلاعاتي فى بعض رياض الأطفال وجدت أن الكثير من مشرفات رياض الأطفال غير المتخصصات فى علم النفس والتربية ورياض الأطفال يجدن أحيانا بعض الصعوبات فى الحصول على مراجع مبسطة وسهلة للوقوف على أهم خصائص النمو فى مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة ودراستها وتفهمها وكيفية التعامل مع طفل هذه المرحلة، ذلك لأن الكثير من مراجع علم النفس بها درجة من الصعوبة قد يتعذر على البعض أحيانا فهم المصطلحات والمفاهيم المتشعبة فى موضوع علم النفس ورياض الأطفال وهذا دفعنى التفكير فى تأليف هذا الكتاب.
