لا شك أن من أهم فلاسفة مصر والعالم العربي الآن وعلى مدار نصف القرن الماضي د. حسن حنفى الذي يعد مثالا قويا على أن الفلسفة لم تمت ولن تموت من العالم العربي ، فهو الفيلسوف الموسوعى الذي تبحر فى دراسة الفلسفة الغربية بتاريخها العريض بالقدر الذي تبحر فيه فى دراسة كل جوانب التراث الاسلامي وفى القلب منه التراث الفقهي والكلامي والفلسفى والصوفي ، وهو الذي عاش فى ذات الوقت كل هموم وقضايا الوطن وأحس بنبض المواطن العربي ومشاكله ، ومن كل ذلك ومن رحم أزمة ونكسة 1967 م ظهر باكورة المشروع الفلسفي لحسن حنفي تحت عنوان " التراث والتجديد – موقفنا من التراث القديم " الذي كان يمثل البيان النظري لمشروع فلسفي ضخم يتمحور حول أربع محاور أعلن عنها فى نفس الكتاب وظلت مجلداته تترى بعد ذلك فى عشرات الأجزاء وآلاف الصفحات. هكذا وصف د. مصطفى النشار مكانة حسن حنفى ومشروعه الفكري فى الفكر العربي المعاصر ، وقد كان ضروريا بعد مرور خمسين عاما على صدوربيانه النظري أن تأتلف هذه الأقلام لإصدار هذا الكتاب الذي يحتوي على دراسات تحليلية نقدية لمختلف جوانب هذا المشروع الفكري الضخم الذي لايزال يفعل فعله فى حياتنا الفكرية أملا فى عصر نهضوي جديد يقوم على " التراث والتجديد " وننتقل فيه " من النقل إلى الابداع"....
