لم أكن أعرف أن بحثي عن نفسي يعني فقداني لها، حاولت أن أعيش دون أن أفكّر في ما أفعله، دون أن أعرف ما عليّ أن أفعله وما يجدر بي فعله، كافحت حتى أكون مثل الجميع، عانيت حتى لا أصغي لقلبي، لكن الشغف سحبني من أطراف ثيابي ومشيت فوق آلامي وعجزي وتحركت عكس علامات الطريق، من الظل إلى الشمس، مشيت في كل الممرات التي قد تؤدي إليَّ، ظننت أنني لا أخاف. والآن فقدت قدرتي ليس على الرؤية فحسب، لكن على الحركة والتفكير والكلام. الآن قدماي مثبّتتان على الأرض وظهري للجدار. لا أحتاج لأحد ولا أغفر لأحد. كل ما فيَّ لن يمنعني من التعرّف على الجزء الكافي مني الذي يمكّنني أن أتخذ قرارًا. حتى لو ابتلعني هذا القرار.
